High Five Workshop

Girls Grade 9:
HIGH FIVE COURSE
(5 Sessions, 10 topics)

This course is presented in conjunction with the Health Curriculum

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE:
Teens are presented a top notch, interactive workshop that helps them gain valuable tell-it-like-it-is insights about themselves and the world around them. Fun and thought-provoking, girls will gain a healthy dose of self-esteem which results in good behaviour and better marks.

DISCOVERING YOU:
Teens are delighted to discover inner gifts they wake up with each day from unique personality traits to their wonderful attributes and virtues. We delve into the benefits of imprinting (positive self talk.)

INSPIRATION AND INFLUENCE:
Inspiration and influence can come from the most unusual places and have a lifelong effect.

PROBLEM SOLVING:
Teens learn 9 strategies for solving or managing their problems and discover that by using multiple strategies they can deal with almost any obstacles and handle stress much better.

RELATIONSHIP RENO'S:
This segment asks, "Can your relationships be better" and shows girls how to improve all relationships using 6 steps and we examine how anyone can become a "class act."

CONTROL:
How to take control of what you can (attitude) and let go of what you can't control. Relaxation techniques are taught.

BOUNDARIES:
This popular topic deals with identifying our core values and setting boundaries. We investigate what happens when there are no boundaries.

OPPORTUNITY:
The spotlight is on people who beat the odds by taking advantage of the opportunity available to anyone to make their lives better.

THE FUTURE:
This segment has teens projecting into their future but not before we take a walk back in time to appreciate how far they've already come. It's thought-provoking and an awesome eye-opener.

DETERMINATION:
We examine where determination comes from and how to use it. I use several unique exercises to show girls how much determination they can pull from within to achieve what they want.

BECOMING UNSTOPPABLE:
Many teens claim they do not understand how to set goals or achieve them. In the final segment we deal "goal cards" to illustrate a variety of attainable goals.

Girls and Guys Grades 9-12:
CREDIT RECOVERY WORKSHOP
(1/2 day)

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE:
A tell-it-like-it-is workshop with a focus on determination and doable strategies that motivate at-risk kids.

DETERMINATION:
A straight forward look at life. We look at things that are out of our control and how to run with things we can control, including attitude and choices.

OBSTACLES:
Most kids in the at-risk program have already had many obstacles to overcome which is their resume for understanding this topic. They'll learn that they can never leave where they are until they decide where they'd rather be. This segment will move at-risk kids forward.

OPPORTUNITIES:
They're already living a winning lottery but most don't know it yet. This segment shows how to take advantage of the opportunity that's everywhere.

THE PLAN:
This final topic is all about making their dream happen with a plan of action and how to take one small step each day to make it happen.

CO-OP COURSE OUTLINE
(1/2 day)

OBJECTIVE:
To help CO-OP students with career building, setting goals and confidence.

THE FUTURE:
This pick-me-up topic encourages excitement about their future.

IMPRINTING AND VISUALIZATION:
Techniques that help with determination along with how to have a hot new attitude toward obstacles they encounter.

THE BOOMERANG EFFECT:
We examine the ever-so-simple lesson: "negative action/ negative reaction ... positive action/ positive reaction" to help us understand how to get along with adults, peers co-workers and even toxic people!

COMMUNICATION AND THE ALADDIN FACTOR:
Communication is more than just talking. This unit offers an armload of useful tips on body language, eye contact, enthusiasm, verbal communication and how essential they are in successful job hunting. The Aladdin Factor teaches them how to ask questions that will help them get ahead.

THE "WOW" THING:
It's all about opportunity. This segment is full of examples of young people (locals too) who have beat the odds and become huge successes.

BECOMING UNSTOPPABLE!:
Many teens claim they do not understand how to set goals or achieve them. We deal "goal cards" to illustrate a variety of attainable goals that will kick-start enthusiasm.

ASSEMBLY PRESENTATIONS: Motivation
(75 minutes)

OBJECTIVE:
The goal is to educate and inspire youth to take pride in their communities and become active in making them healthy, safe places.

OPPORTUNITY:
This first topic focuses on how to take advantage of the countless opportunities this country and the community has to offer. It comes to life using local examples of successful kids who have recognized an opportunity and gone for it by making a name for themselves or making a contribution to their community.

OBSTACLES:
We are all fascinated with people who have beat the odds. Stories found in magazines, news clips, best sellers and the biography channel chronicle those who have "made it" despite obstacles they faced. These people are often the same ones that inspire and influence the rest of us to work harder.

UNLIKELY HEROES:
The purpose of this final topic is to identify characteristics that are common to heroes and show how anyone can step into the role with even the smallest acts of sacrifice, achievement and kindness.
